Escambia County raises taxes on property, is unfriendly to business by discouraging any manufacturing or large companies from coming in. Alabama is a tax friendly business friendly state. The people who go to our colleges leave for better paying jobs. We have no incentives in Escambia county and didn't years ago when I left after college to make money elsewhere. I only came back to care for my elderly mother.

Retired friends wanted to move to our area from Atlanta, GA where they'd lived and worked for many years.
They did their homework by finding the statistics for economy, quality of schools, new home sites, how safe would they be in their home, crime, drugs, burglaries, how well would they be represented by elected officials?
They chose Santa Rosa County over Escambia County.

While we here in Escambia see businesses close, jobs lost, people moving away due to the economy, schools and safety it makes me wonder why we are not making the changes that would make people want to live here?

How is it that our neighbors in Alabama are opening new areas for jobs and improved lives while here our city and county leadership seems to invest in one disaster after the other?
