@bob,didn’t the county just approve to pick up the tab of some $37,000 for clean up that Century was unable to pay? Century is like ECAT if it can’t support it self maybe it’s time for change. I have read many articles on different grants and such that is received by Century,it’s seems Century is unable to generate enough tax or revenue to support it self,I do believe that there is some great possibilities in Century but it will take many to get involved to make it happen and for some to stop looking for others to do it for them. Some should put their own agenda aside and start looking for development that will benefit many and that would be a good start, the City of Century dose have the possibility of having business owners asking to be part of Century,and thats when all of Century will feel the benefit when they put themselves in a position to pick and choose,long term is the goal,not quick fixes.

My thoughts on the County would be poor zoning and planning….the area that I live..which is just outside of the town limits..we can’t get homeowners insurance for one reason..our house is more than 1,000 feet from the nearest fire hydrant…I think that there needs to be some revamping on a vast number of County protocols

So the county or town of Century couldn’t pick up the cost of putting the students up in and cover their travel cost in exchange for free labor! This county is so short sided thinking just like the jail! It will be 2020 before a new jail is built! 6 years after the BOCC blew it up saying they could run it better and cheaper the the Sheriff. Thanks Gene! We will never escape the good old boy crap in the county with the bozos we have elected as our “leaders” and I typed that in lower case to make a point!

Its the responsibility for the property owners to clean up their own property. The town runs utilities and some other duties. They have made programs available. Soon the county will be invited in to take over their duties. I believe some people still expect the local government to act like the old company boss or plantation owner from a past way of life long gone.

Because when they work for the city it either makes them money or saves them money. Helping the community does bring them any reward.

Connie that’s a great idea however it wouldn’t work. Too many areas for the guards to try and supervise. One escape and everyone would be up in arms. I have an idea get all those that suffered damage come together and help each other. Have a clean up Century party and let the whole town work together to accomplish this.
I know of people just sitting on their back side just waiting for help. Get up and start helping yourself and get over the poor me pity me. Not all are doing this but most are.Century Mayor Freddie McCall and your staff get up off your butt and get the entire town organized and get this cleaned up!!!!!

If the inmates can work for the town then why can’t they help the town with what needs to be done to help the community. They work for the garage trucks and other things for the town. So what is the difference with guards watching over them?
