Century was a booming little town in 1950s, where I grew up..the sawmill humming, whistle blowing to notify all .. Time for work, time for lunch, time for rest…we skated on the streets, we came home for lunch, (and the teachers came with us pretty often) we visited our teachers that lived in the old hotel, everybody cheered for the black cats, a feeling of freedom and safety prevailed. Sadly, our children will never experience that kind of life. So sad to see our landmark school destroyed.

I was the Career Counselor at Century High School for 26 years, and believe me there is a lot more memories in that old building than one can tell. During the first few years a lot of racial tension…..but soon most of the students learn to live and get along with each other. I remember many of the teachers that made it a good school!

dont know this school but guessing if it was built by the W P A it is porbly all brick not brick veneer solid built not like today

My mom went there as a child and graduated from there so i wish they could’ve used it as more of a museum for Century and kept the school alive

I believe I have seen a book on the history of Century High School. The Alger-Sullivan Historical Society has books for sale on Blackcat football. I have access to yearbooks from 1954 through the 1980’s. If I can’t find a book, I will write one.

I wish people could make a last walk through the school before tearing down.
