Just a few short years ago, capital punishment in Alabama was used for the crimes of murder, arson, rape and robbery, even burglary. Until 1927 hanging was the preferred method except one was shot. Since 1976 a judicial over ride has allowed the death penalty to be carried out at yes, Holman. I hope all will be retried and resentenced. They are given a choice though, electrocution or lethal injection most chose the injection. I think that would solve a lot of problems.

If they are on death row, or were serving life in prison, and now have attempted murder and arson, I believe they should go ahead and execute the inmates involved right away. It was not the workers or the warden that is the problem it is the criminals and the system that does not mete out the proper justice and sentence.

Quineka, if the people who are inmates had acted with any respect towards others, and the laws of the land, they would probably not be in jail. Jail is not supposed to be a vacation for these people(and animals) it’s called a correctional facility for a reason. Quit defending the rights of people who took rights from others.

The #1 contraband these days is the cell phone inside the jail/prison systems! Most of the time it’s the Corrections Officers or other staff that bring the phones in for the inmates/convicts. Then those officers or staff are paid by family members connected to these convicts on the outside.

I worked at Holman Prison and have other C.O. experience…. so I’ve seen quite a bit. It’s nothing for a Corrections Officer to go to the Dollar General, buy a $30 dollar prepaid phone, and get paid $300-$400 bucks for smuggling it in the prison system. Now just imagine what kind of phone like a iPhone or Smart phone goes for??? Those phones can easily put THOUSANDS of dollars into the hands of corrupt prison employees. So now you see why it’s a problem!!! It’s a double edged sword too, though. These people will get paid a lot of money for delivering these phones, but then the convicts have “dirt” on you and will rat you out sooner or later.

It’s true what one guy typed on the other post about this topic saying that C.O.’s are overworked and underpaid. They really should have a CERT team at Holman ready 24-7!!! Not just Holman, but EVERY prison!!! Now they wonder why they can’t keep employees (Holman and Fountain) and are 200+ under-staffed. Well, after getting death threats, being jumped on, getting stabbed, and throwing things at you (batteries, rocks, locks, etc.) when your back is turned… it’s not worth it. To be honest, any inmate that attacks a prison employee/official SHOULD BE HUNG! Be sure to do it that day in front of the other inmates just to reinforce what will happen to the rest of them! Then maybe this crap will stop. Until then..these animals will continue to get a tiny slap on the wrist.

Bottom line though… this corruption not only starts with employees at the low end of the totem pole in the prison system, but can reach as high as the Warden himself. Even higher than that.

I’m so sorry for all the violence and people being hurt but it’s been coming. My husband worked for Fountain for a few months and said no way! As fast as he took contraband away they would have it back. It was such a corrupt system there and there was not enough help. This was in 1998 and it has only got worse not better.
