Ok so they are bilboards with benches and very little cover to protect why not throw in free wifi like the buses have and lets all pay for it why not unemployment is high and aince we all have money to burn and the tax was never voted on but forced upon us like Obamacare sure lets do this we as tax payers need to start standing up to things like this look into Ecat and see it for what it is it is a public funded bussiness like ECUA. Ok i will get off my box before they kick in my door

So, now our gov’t imposed gas tax is now paying for bus stop comforts?
What a joke…more of the same…have the taxpayer fund some more bs.

I listened in on some of those ECAT billboard discussions a few years ago and ECAT was locked into an advertisement deal with a noted advertising company in the area but the bus stops did little if any to protect citizens from the elements. If its raining, you still got we and if it was sunny, there’s never enough room for several people much less anywhere to sit, but rest assured there was space enough to solicit advertisers. Before setting those things out, spend some time riding the bus and stand out there in the rain and heat and see for yourself how well they protect and serve the patrons. Gainesville had some of the best bus stops ive seen out of the Florida cities . . . . . real shelters with tinted plexiglass for the sun and significant protection from the rain . . . big enough for 5 – 6 people to sit under if needed and they still had room for their advertising needs.

O.K., so here we go! We are paying a gas tax in order to fund fuel for the buses. (most of us do not use). However, fuel prices have dropped dramatically and the tax has not dropped. Now they have money to replace benches and put up shelters?

I think someone needs to take a deep look into ECAT’s budget. Seems as if the gas tax is being used on things it was not intended for!

With the revenue gained from the advertising on these shelters will the 4 cents per gallon extra we are paying for gasoline, which is dedicated to ECAT, be descended?

The intent of these “bus stops” is not to provide shelter for bus passengers as much as they are a way to skirt the law, and put advertising signs on the right of way. Just look at the ones that are already in place. they are a billboard with a bench in it. If any of us placed a sign on the right of way that sometimes blocks the view of cars trying to enter an intersection, DOT would immediately remove it, and probably even assess a fine.
