AMEN TO BOTH. I am so sick of the lack of leadership, quality education and joy of teaching in our public school! My granddaughter attends a public middle school in Escambia County Florida where she watches films or cartoons as fillers for teaching. Whatever happened to teachers that loved what they do? I believe that they are told too much about what to teach and how the state expects the scores to show their progress. I, for one, do not want baby sitters as teachers and I truly believe that's not what a good teacher wants either. Four hours a day on core subjects would do the trick. Let TEACHERS be and do their jobs! And by the way no child should have to ride a bus for 45 minutes to 2 hours a day to and from school. This is happening every day.

I can't believe how much education has changed. There are so many students graduating from high school who can't write, spell or do just simple math. It's amazing to hear some of the things that are mentioned on TV about our education system. It seems that basic education isn't important any more. What ever happen to READING, WRITING, ARITHMETIC, GOVERNMENT and children learning things about their home STATE? Children get passed to the next grade when they can't read what they were suppose to learn to read. Parents ARE NOT taking the time to GUIDE and INSTRUCT their child in learning all that the child CAN learn. They go to school, get passed to the next grade, finish school with a certificate of completing the 12 years, but no DIPLOMA. It saddens me that Mothers & Fathers aren't spending enough time with their children, encouraging them to be the best that they can be' in all the studies that's available for them. Giving them just 30 minutes a day in helping with reading or what ever subject they're having problems with. If the parent can't help, they could seek help through the school for tutoring. Our children are so important to us, we want them to have every opportunity to LEARN ALL that they can to prepare then for college.
