The highways are in pretty good shape.The problem is not necessarily the roads,but the drivers.Almost everyone I meet on any 2 lane highway.is on a cellphone.If you are on highway 97 and the speed limit most of the time is 55 or you’re on 29 and the speed limit is 65 everyone is going at least 10 miles over the speed limit,if not faster.Put a cellphone in the mix and maybe weather problems,maybe a crying child,loud music or any other number of distractions and guess what,a recipe for disaster.Highway 97 needs to be widened,chances are that may never happen,but if people would leave for work or school 15 earlier than they do now the need to be in such a hurry would be lessened..Slowing down would help everyone!!

Highway 29 from Brent Lane to the Atmore Highway Is our own “Death Highway”. We used to hear a lot about 98 between Navarre and Gulf Breeze, but they have nothing on Hwy 29!

I agree with Betty. I mean Hwy 29 is turning into a speedway. Something need to be done about this.

This is happening all too often. The speed limit needs to be lowered and strictly enforced on Hwy. 29.

Hey I’m only 48. Well less than 90. I remember when Hwy 29 was 2 lane from Molino Rd and northward.

Many people who live north of 9 mile road, especially along Hwy 29 and 297, would like the county and FDOT to reevaluate these roads with the goal of preventing accidents. I am not stupid enough to realize that people who are drunk, to young, talking on the phone, texting, or just plain not psying attention are often the cause of these accidents. Often though, innocent people are injured or killed. The nortern part of Escambia County has and will be the source of growth. The roads need to grow with it. Highway 29 is probably the same age as WCOA,90. The biggest mistake was routing it between two railroad tracks. Feeder roads need to be updated. Look at the condition of Muscogee Road, pot hole city and way to narrow for today. It was great back in 1960. Some say we need a mira le. Nope just a vision, will, and leadership.
