Just in case you missed it the Florida legislators have been trying to find a way to backtrack on education policies. It will not be quick and bold because they refuse to show weakness or that they may have made a mistake. Also if you take a look this retake by folks like the Gatez boys runs parallel to the decline of JEB Bush. As he falls in the polls and any chance to be President his good ole boys back here in Florida can step away from his very unpopular education policies. Hopefully some better and more common sense policies will come out of this session.

REGARDING:
" You were tested on a regular basis, in each class/course. If you passed, you graduated. Pretty simple. The schools had a standard that worked."

After a fashion.

Folks did notice, however, that people with a passing grade from some schools were able to do the work, spell, cipher, understand what they were told.

Others from other schools with the same passing grades couldn't do any of the above.

Politicians are actually supposed to spend our money wisely and they/we were funding both sets of schools. "Just gimme the money and shut up!" doesn't get it.

Sure, their proposed solutions were often silly and wasteful, but that just shows they were ripped off on being properly educated too.

David for better value

"the debate over how to measure student learning"

This is ridiculous! I'll tell you how you measure student learning. You go back to the way it used be done; back when I, and my parents, went to school. There was no FCAT. You were tested on a regular basis, in each class/course. If you passed, you graduated. Pretty simple. The schools had a standard that worked. Then some politicians got involved and I am pretty sure that if we looked deep enough, we can find evidence that someone, or some business, got rich off of the new requirements/agenda.

Oh common sense, where did you go? Bring back the good old days!
