You're wrong. The state doesn't reimburse defendants found "not guilty". The only way to recoup his expenses would be to sue the state for malicious prosecution. Bond money is always returned if they show up at the end, guilty or not guilty. That's why bondsmen like putting up bond for ten percent of the amount. That isn't the government but individuals, that money ain't coming back. Lawyer fees, don't get your hopes up. You'd have to prove the charges were unjustified. If that were true, the judge would have thrown it out to begin with. Remember Orenthal James Simpson was able to beat a murder rap with his footprints in the blood because he hired very good lawyers (and the prosecution worried more about appearance than irrefutable physical evidence). He spent so much money beating the charge that he couldn't afford enough legal representation to beat the civil suit with the same evidence or later charges for armed robbery and kidnapping, he was found guilty and sentenced to 33 years. Maybe if he still had the money his murder trials cost him, he could've beat the later, lesser charges. Not saying this dear child shot the three people who were shot while he was in the car. Wally-- I'd imagine his smile has lasted quite a while, wouldn't you ?
