The danger of letting ten guilty people go free is that many of them will commit more crimes against the innocent, including murder.

The goal should be to convict only the guilty but ALL of the guilty even if some form of mercy is then given.

Yes John lets use presumption over testimony. Because we know every criminal has a background, and every person with a background remains a criminal. (SARCASM)

"We would rather allow a guilty person to go free than convict an innocent one"

I believe a persons character and background history should go a long way in determining a persons guilt or innocence it shows a pattern, for example: Bill shoots Fred, Bill said Fred attacked him, Fred has a wrap sheet a mile long, Bill doesn't, chances are Fred really did what Bill said he did!! Its not that hard folks!!!

My understanding of this proposed law is that it came about because through effective court action/attorney action, the burden of proof was shifted from the state to the shooter, which was NOT the intent of the original law. To say it was NOT self-defense, the burden of proof should fall to the state. Instead, it's on the shooter to prove they are innocent. Remember, all are innocent until proven guilty. This law was intended to put the burden of proof back on the state rather than allow it to continue to be placed on those who are legitimately defending themselves.

This proposed law will be back.

"You can't prosecute me because this law says you can't."
"How do we know it applies?"
"You have to prove it doesn't."
"Why? You're the one invoking the law. Why should we trust a killer?"

On the other hand, if the prosecutor can't prove it doesn't apply to a judge's satisfaction, there is no reason to assume a jury would be more likely to convict.
(I say this despite the fact that one juror in a murder trial recently admitted GZ wasn't guilty of murder in the case of killing TM but wanted to convict anyway.)
Therefore it would be a waste of time and money and possibly involve attacking another innocent person.

David for proper application of law

That is exactly what the ruling from the Florida Supreme Court ruled the shooter is guilty unless proven innocent.

The ruling was done so to line the pockets of their fellow lawyers.
