Woo-Hoo!!!

Our GP rates have almost doubled in the last 10 years for 1000 KW of power and we are supposed to be doing a happy dance over a $4.00 a month decrease?

Gulf Power, AKA "Southern Company" has one of the highest, if not the highest rates in Florida.
It's a monopoly, obsolete generating technology, and they are making a killing at our expense.

Lets see...
Rate increases after Hurricane Ivan to pay for damaged infrastructure approved. Rate increases for coal and natural gas costs approved.
Rate increases to pay for $500 million scrubber to meet EPA emissions for a few more years approved.

Coal fired power plants have been obsolete in the U.S. for years and most sit idle. Natural gas is the way to go, and with the abundance of it in the Gulf of Mexico, its a sensible [clean] and economical fuel source.
Look at how many fossil fuel power plants located where coal is plentiful are still operating. Very few.
Why is Gulf Power still burning mostly coal? Its because they own the coal mines. They have the regulators, Florida Public Service Commission, in there back pockets . It makes them a ton of money while its killing our environment.
Not knocking those employed with them, its a good living. But the consumer is getting ... well you know.

Seems like to me they have worked very hard to keep our bill rates up since natural gas and coal are at their lowest prices in years and we hardly ever see a rate decrease in our monthly bill! Why have we not seen much larger decreases is my question?
