State Law mandates a 180 day school year for "regular" schools (can be different for special centers, DJJ, and the like). Jason is right on about ending the first semester prior to the Christmas break in December. Much better for the kids and families and all to have a pause point in the school year. Terrible to come back after two weeks break for Christmas and be faced with tests to take. Years just go by faster and faster, Granny was sure right about that. @ Jason / Dman….

I guess with our crazy weather, more technology to learn and heavier curricula and *caugh* common core *caugh*...the kiddos have less time for summer.
