@ Jason / Dman....
Lots more for these kids learn and do than in my days in class with Barney Rubble.

State Law mandates a 180 day school year for "regular" schools (can be different for special centers, DJJ, and the like).

Jason is right on about ending the first semester prior to the Christmas break in December. Much better for the kids and families and all to have a pause point in the school year. Terrible to come back after two weeks break for Christmas and be faced with tests to take.

Years just go by faster and faster, Granny was sure right about that.

@Dman.... they start the 3rd week of August to ensure the 1st semester is complete and mid-term testing was done prior to kids leaving for the winter (aka Christmas) break. Once these kids return in January they start the 2nd semester headed for the end of the school year.

Doggone they're starting earlier and earlier...I remember getting released on June 8ish and returning September 4ish (late 80s/early 90s). I guess with our crazy weather, more technology to learn and heavier curricula and *caugh* common core *caugh*...the kiddos have less time for summer.

The schedulers strike again. If you have a student in both Molino Park and Earnest Ward middle which orientation do you attend or do you race from one to other making it by the skin of your teeth? With all those high priced administrators one would think they could do a little better job planning these things.
