Please remember this and all that has gone before next time you vote. With what Scott did during the first term I was completely surprised he was re-elected. State Workers, including DOC, are a large voting block. Not sure why anyone thought it would get better second time around. Anyway, the Legislature should be ashamed for allowing DOC to go down hill the way it has. I know there was a hid agenda in that, but to put staff and the public in danger to accomplish an agenda that was doomed to failure to being with is criminal. Most private companies are not equipped to run an entire state system. Fix the pay, fix the retirement, fix the buildings and security systems now in place, keep up with technology in security areas, provide safe reliable vehicles, and believe me the Florida Department of Corrections will be once again the leader in Corrections. You can't have a diamond system if all you want to pay for is a piece of coal. Great staff (and far to few due to your budget issues) can only do so much Mr. Scott!

This is exactly why so many C.O.'s leave the state and go to the county. In my county the Sheriff Correctional Officers get paid much better. The more years you have with the state as a C.O. the more the county will pay you. I have almost 10 years with the state and make under $35K a year. The county has already told me I would start off at about $50K-$51K to work in the jail. I have already started the application process and look forward to actually working for a employer the doesn't treat its staff as trash. I wish the rest of the C.O.'s luck.
