I don't know what the solution is but here in Pensacola we have a problem. There is a segment of our population that is not only a burden (I can live with burden, not like it but live with it) but is a menace. I live is a section of town where theft, robbery, gunfire and sirens drugs and prostitutes are a daily occurrence.

Honest people should not have to tolerate the bad behavior of a few. You have a handful in this community that are having a seriously negative impact on the quality of life of everyone else around them. It just is not right, it is not fair to the majority that just want to live their lives and raise their families in peace.

The police have failed us, the courts have failed us, the leadership has failed us. I for one would not recommend that anyone move to this town and in my opinion that is a sad state of affairs. We should be doing better not just for ourselves but for our children.

CONSIDERING:
"Florida needs to have a “3 strikes you’re out” law. After being arrested for the third time, it’s life in prison."

I hope you actually mean "convicted".
It is possible to arrest someone for anything, guilty or not.
Nobody's freedom should hinge completely on a deputy's honesty.

Plus, there's crimes and there's crimes.
Some crimes even done ten times wouldn't justify spending the rest of your life in prison.
Other crimes should never see freedom to commit the second.

Thank you William2, my thoughts exactly. It seems that society has gotten very tolerant of those that break the law and they make excuses for them so they can do it again and again. If he is not truly mentally ill then he needs to be in prison long term. If this man is truly mentally ill, refuses to be compliant with meds and is a danger to others then he needs to be place in a State Mental Hospital long term. Either way he needs to be out of society permanently.

It is sad that it has to come to this. His family have been reaching out to the courts for years. All they did was arrest him and release him back to society. Prison/Jail is not the answer. This is a mental disturbed person that was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia disorders. He should b
on medication for the rest of his is life, he doesn't. He should be in a mental hospital for a long term as recommended by his family.
Hopefully this can help the judges with a clearer background on Mr. Newton.
Way over due.

This man was in the final stages of working on his GED. Now all this happens and derails his chances and hopes of living a productive life. Sources have said, the system is to blame and he just was misunderstood in his actions.

@Daquan If you refuse to live in a civilized manor and choose a life of habitual crime society has not only the right but the duty to do something about it. Those of us who work, pay taxes, and lead a relatively quite law abiding life do not have to put up with those who don't.

I dont think the lack of prosecution of many of these cases can be blamed solely on the State Attorney office. Its hard to prosecute a case where the victim chooses not to cooperate or witnesses avoid the subpoena from a civil process server so they dont have to give a deposition or testify in court.

In looking at the online court records, it appears that when victims and witnesses cooperate cases are prosecuted and the judicial system imposes an adequate jail sentence.

When people complain that sentences arent long enough, the judicial system is often imposing a sentence that fall within a standard set of sentencing requirements that all defendants throughout the state are subjected - even those who appear to be habitual offenders.

Why doesn't the court get this man the help he needs. It would benefit both him and the community.
