The shooting actually happened Sunday afternoon. I heard it because I was sitting on the porch and heard the brakes squeal and the gun go off. Archie is off of Hecker.

That’s too bad John. I’m sorry you had that experience. Crime and all the rest happens everywhere, not just Century. I was in a park in Pensacola one time and heard the same things. There’s many good people that live here in Century and it would be worth another drive back. You can call the Alger-Sullivan Museum and schedule a personal tour. It will be worth the second effort, I can assure you. One of the numbers put on their website is 850-256-3980.

They have a list of phone numbers you can call and someone will be glad to come open up for you. Call ahead and you can have an even better tour.
(And no shootings on Tuesdays or Saturdays, it’s a rule)

John, you cannot judge the entire town by a few bad apples. I have lived here off and on my entire life and yes, I have seen bad things, but, have witnessed many good things also.

Everywhere has crime now. Just take a look at a newspaper or turn your news channel on. We in Century may have some crime, but, not murders everyday as in other places. You walk in the store and someone is going to say hey how are you!

I am sorry your experience was bad. But, come back again when we have the car show in October, I believe, and you will see a small gathering of loving people, hear some wonderful music and singing and see a town enjoying each others company.

I once took the family to visit Century, we first went to the showalter park (before they renovated it) so the kids could play, and a car with blacked out windows kept circling around, so we left the park and decided to go to the Alger Sullivan Railroad Museum, it was closed and before we left the museum, we could hear the people down the street cussing at some kids and the kids cussing back. Then seeing little ones unattended in their front yards in diapers. Yes, this is my experience visiting Century and now know why the way it is!!!
