About two years ago the Atmore City Council removed the prison from the City's jurisdiction. ( http://www.atmorenews.com/2013/02/13/council-removes-prisons-from-city-limits/ ) I don't know if the census followed that or not, but if so, the numbers are correct. I do believe that MAYBE the census includes people in "surrounding areas." That would, indeed, skew the numbers.

Obviously, if the numbers (2013/2014) are based on the 2010 census, and the census did include the inmate population, the "current numbers" still include the inmate population. If that is the case, then I suspect that we may see the REAL population of Atmore in about five years.

I wish they would stop including the prison inmates as part of Atmore's population, it really messes up the numbers. I suspect Atmore's population is really about 7k people.
