I saw that same man this morning at 5:45 am. White shirt, tan pants… DID NOT SEE HIM until I was right up on him. Walking between the curb and the side white line! DANGEROUS!!!

I saw a woman near Target on Nine Mile the other night. She was waiting for the light to cross the road. She was wear a high viability reflective vest, a bicycle helmet with flashing light and carry g a flash light. When the traffic light turn in her favor she crossed the road…..

About the clothes, yesterday I came across a man in white shirt and tan slacks in the early morning hours. I didnt see him until I was about 100′ away. No matter what clothing is worn, unless you are paying close attention, you just wont see them.

@ Thinker…..the roadway was made for moving vehicles. Pedestrians are the ones who should be extra cautious about the chances they are taking when they opt to walk in the roadway – at night – in poor lighting – while wearing dark clothing – or for being under the influence.

I promise you its easier for the pedestrian to see my headlights coming at them long before I will see them in the road and hope to avoid them. That extra second or two a pedestrian waits on the side of the road before crossing – allowing traffic to completely clear – may be those precious seconds that will prolong their life.

Municipalities are strapped for cash these days but there is a major lack of sidewalks and crosswalks to accomodate pedestrians in many cities and this is inexcusable especially with so many homeless and low-income people who just don’t have cars. It’s a matter of priorities. But drivers must be more aware that people drink and use drugs and sidewalks are scarce. Using cell phones while driving at night is especially foolish…anywhere.

I do not think any color clothing is going to help you when you step
” directly into the path ” of a vehicle. This is a battle you will lose every time. I do agree that you should take every precaution you can.

I think if I was a pedestrian walking on any road I’d go out and get some high vis clothing before starting my adventure. Way to many fatalities in the news lately.
