Not everyone in the corrections system is a hardened criminal. The community benefits from thier labor. I would like to see more inmates cleaning trash, mowing along county roads and tree care. Citizens should realize that pride in community doesn't have to cost a fortune. Pride in community spaces might actually spread to private yards. This kind of service is good to see. AWESOME benefit for ALL. Remembering back to the days when hall lockers, cafeteria tables, desks and the such would be taken from schools during summer break and repaired, renovated, re-painted by Florida Inmates. They would come back to schools looking brand new and working perfectly. Inmates used to build bookcases for libraries and other furniture from scratch and their work was an art craft and beautiful and decades long lasting. If you have ever been in the Federal Courthouse downtown Pensacola there is a lot of that furniture made by inmates and it is outstanding. I think this is a Great use of prisoner time and effort and just because they messed up and landed in jail / prison does not mean they lack skills and talents that can benefit both them and we the citizens. Saved $5,000 and the inmates can have great personal pride in saying, "I helped make that for the kids at Escambia Westgate". We need more Good News like this....Thank You.
