I wasn’t going to comment about this, but I wanted the family to know, I was the first one to get to him after the accident. The man that hit him was on the phone with 911.
My self and several other people that stopped did everything possible to try and keep him alive, Everyone performed CPR on him until the fire department and EMS got there an took over. When I got to him, he barely had a faint pulse, but everyone tried. He was not conscious and did not suffer. Just wanted the family to know that people do care and did try everything possible to save him. The Ensley Fire Department and several deputies and even a PA worked on him a long time until they had to accept that he was gone.
The man that hit him was not at fault. He was very upset and there was no way he could have seen him, he was riding low in the wheelchair and wearing all dark clothes. It was an accident. Just wanted the family to know that he did not just lay there and die. People really tried everything. I hope this give you some peace of mind. God will take care of him now.

pensacola is one of the worse places to see people on the edge of the road walking and riding bikes on the edge of the payment! I came very close to someone walking in the edge of the road. He was wearing dark clothes and I didn’t see him till I was right on him. I just knew when I seen him I was going to hit him. Thank God I didn’t. People should NOT be allowed to walk or ride bikes that close to the road. Even the bike lanes are to close to the traffic. There is a lot of traffic on the highways.

You are correct about Ensley and anything north of Pensacola not being pedestrian friendly. You failed to mention that it appears the county doesn’t know how to make it so. Brand new intersection at Palafox and Johnson. Real nice road….wheel chair accesses at all corners but no sidewalks connecting to the accesses. While the federal government is probably requiring accesses, why put them in if they are useless??? Put some sidewalks in, Mo-Rons! Give the people somewhere to walk or roll that is not in traffic lanes!

We have WAY TO MANY, Pedestrian deaths. I think it’s time tickets for J- walking be reinstated…I almost hit a man at the Burger king running across six-Lanes of HWY 29.

I travel that road every day on my home from work, and every day I see a man with one leg rolling down highway 29 south bound in the north bound lane, in a wheel chair. I don’t wish harm on him or anyone else. Common sense isn’t so common any more. If you cannot do 35 mph get off of hwy 29 and onto the shoulder.

Ensley and most of the outskirts of Pensacola is not pedestrian friendly. I see so many more people having to walk to get where they need to go but rarely do I see sidewalks provided for safety. Maybe one day our commissioners well see the importance of adding sidewalk in the county but how many more people have to die or get seriously injured first?

Wasn’t there an accident about a week ago in the same area or a few blocks over. That 29n traffic is really bad. Condolences to the families of all the accident victims lately.
