Jason is right about one thing, this is a dark stretch of highway. I come down this stretch every weekday morning @ 4.30 am. However, there is no such thing as a safe pedestrian crossing in Pensacola……even in broad daylight! Unless you are in tip top physical condition, do not attempt to cross any street in Pensacola as a pedestrian. Between the red light runners, speeders, texting while speeding AND running red light drivers, you don,t have a prayer.
On somewhat of a positive note in this story, tragic as it is, Ms Frye gave her life trying to help and save a friend. I hope she is buried with honor and dignity.

The lady that died in this hit and run was developmentally delayed,, as well as her friend, it appears from the pictures that it happened across from the Dollar General and they were walking back to their apartment where they lived. Jennifer had CP which may have triggered her to fall.

@CJones and sniper Doesn’t Florida EMS call TCC for trauma alerts? In Alabama we do and the tell us and patch us through to the receiving hospital so we don’t have to repeat our report numerous times. TCC, for us in Alabama, makes the call as to where our patients go and it would never be to a hospital that isn’t a trauma center?

Chances are, most people that travel Davis around there frequent it. Keep a look out for cars around you when on Davis. O see a lot of the same cars on Davis, I can yell my specific number stickers, etc.

@ ER Nurse (and others) – thank you for your explanations. I think I’m as surprised as many others to learn of what I consider a huge difference in ER facilities. One would think every ER should be a trauma center, but now we know that’s not the case. Sadly amazing.

West Florida does not provide trauma services, only Sacred and Baptist. Trauma alerts bypass non-trauma centers. The exception is if patient is/becomes trauma code (loses vital signs) in which case they are generally transported to the nearest hospital in attempt to stabilize the patient in an ER. If the patient can be resuscitated (which is very rare following traumatic code) they are transferred immediately to nearest trauma center for more comprehensive and specialized surgical care.

Each patient has a choice of which hospital they want to go to. EMS cannot decide unless the patient cannot. If they are trauma alerted then EMS makes the call. william you are correct. Sacred is preferred because of its trauma center. sme goes with pediatric incidents.
