As the widow of a long haul trucker, killed in a traffic accident, thank you. I commend you sir for not forsaking your parents after you had their licenses pulled. There are so many children who abandon their parents in their later years. How incredibly sad. As a paramedic,I have worked many mvc's where elderly drivers have been hurt or even killed and they truly had no business behind the wheel of a car.

My extreme condolences to the family of this man, and any other family member who have endured the death, or injury, of any family member in a traffic crash. At an advanced age, he could have experienced a medical emergency. The traffic homicide investigation will possibly shed some information on the cause. However, the initial cause was "failure to negotiate a left curve" and hit a two oak trees..which are serious traffic filters. He could have failed to negotiate a "right" curve and hit an oncoming vehicle with more human souls enclosed.

Family members need to put on their big boy pants, and make a determination as to when their elderly family members need to lose some of their independence, and, privilege to drive. Not saying this was the determining factor in this case, but it is a question which will arise. From a retired LEO, and, family member who had no problem taking my parents drivers licenses. I, in turn did not forsake them and did provide any mobility assistance I could.
