Sway Bars, Load Distribution Hitch, and the most overlooked is proper loading of the trailer, and not exceeding the trailers GVWR. And one thing most people don’t know is most travel trailer tires are only rated for 65mph. Max

I have seen to many people pulling larger trailers, both campers and hauling trailers going to fast, causing the trailer to sway and they lose control. I’m glad no one was hurt.

I had something happen similar to this a few years back on I-10. Blew a back tire and the trailer stated fishtailing, when it grabbed the shoulder it was all over. From start to finish it only took a few seconds. Hauling long trailers like this things can go bad very quickly, hope everyone is ok.

Thank god for the FHP- who don’t assume or speculate on mishaps or accidents as this.They investigate and use science for the outcome. Not ” must have” science”
Glad the people are ok and no passing vehicle’s in the other lane were impacted.

To many times have I seen people who really never mastered an automobile try pulling a travel trailer or drive a motor home.The results terrible.Get a sway bar.At least.Glad there was no one injured.

This is an RVers worst nightmare. Right size truck (3/4 ton) pulling a “bumper hitch” (Not 5th wheel) – and something that only the driver knows happened. There are so many factors involved in pulling an RV, only a small glitch can mess you up. I don’t even want to guess what went wrong – our thoughts and prayers are with them that they are not hurt. Everything else can be replaced.

Let’s also assume they didn’t have a trailer brake controller so when the trailer started pushing the truck they had no way to slow it down. So we can also assume this happened going down hill.

Don’t know for sure, but I am guessing it started swaying and they lost control. It does not look like a 5 wheel hook up because the trailer is on it’s side and the truck is not. I am guessing it is a standard receiver hitch hook up, but they were not using a weight distribution hitch. When the weight is not evenly distributed and the trailer is that long with a short truck, you are just asking for an accident. Luckily no one was hurt, and this can just be a very expensive lesson learned. Of course all of that stuff I said depends on whether I am right about the weight distribution hitch. Regardless the important part is no one was hurt.
