Some of the comments on here are saying they are glad there were no serious injuries involved in this accident. Well , my friend that the young man pulled in front of is in the hospital with a broken arm with a plate from her elbow to her wrist … A broken ankle that required surgery as well with 6 pins in her ankle. And also she has a broken back also. She will be immobile for 6-8 weeks due to her broken back. She also was told by the Doctor that she needs rehab for 8 weeks. I would consider this as serious injuries. I’m thankful that there were no deaths involved.

I am so glad no one was seriously injured. But if this the 4-way stop at Kingsfield and 297A -then yes, it is “well marked” I travel that way every single day. There have been a lot of accidents at this intersection. People really do need to pay more attention while driving. Whether you are 16 or 66. PAY ATTENTION!!!!! There is no excuse for running a stop sign!!!!!

Debra, the intersection here is NOT a 4-way stop. I’ve driven through there recently and had to insure my stop as I was crossing Hwy 97. If this is not where you drive, all you have to do is look up on Google Maps street view and you can see the stop signs on Kingsfield Rd but not on Hwy 97.

For at least the past year, the driver of the Challenger has been my neighbor. A very well behaved young man. They were good neighbors and sorry to see them move out of the neighborhood. I’m sure he was driving the car because of the move. Mom was always very responsible and respectful. The Son displayed those same characteristics so please don’t judge the kid unless you know him. Let’s see I am westbound on Kingsfield approaching 97, I pass one 36″ stop ahead sign before getting to the right turn lane, I then pass another 36″ stop ahead sign that has a special emphasis design AND a flashing warning beacon on top, I am pretty sure there are stop ahead and stop messages printed on the roadway and finally an oversized stop sign, stop bar ……additionally there are warning signs advising of the presence of the intersection for traffic approaching on 97…… I can’t see how any fault can be constributed to the roadway, strictly a matter of an inexperienced driver failing to use due care………..

What we ALL need to do is get on the phone, fax, etc. to the County Commission, Road Department, Sheriff’s Department, and anyone else who (won’t) listen to us. If enough people inundate them with communications regarding the issue, they ought to do something. At some point this intersection will become a liability for the County, but it MUST begin with the dangers being brought to the authorities’ attention.

In any event it will be a while before this individual makes that mistake again.

Moreover I am of the opinion that the Challenger is a well constructed auto.
Notice how the front end and rear quarter panels are buckled, but the floor pan maintained it’s integrity, protecting the driver.

Full frame or just plain luck?

It’s not just teenager’s anymore, I see adults driving distracted all the time too. For example: There was an adult female driving with steering wheel in one hand and her iPad in the other very scary.

Florida needs to abolish the “no fault” insurance laws and increase fines and penalties, if they did things right we could get bad drivers off the road, let them ride ecat.

I’m the mother of the passenger that was involved in this accident. After seeing the vehicles, I am so very thankful that everyone involved will be ok. It could have been so much worse. We just went by the scene of the accident again today and there really needs to be a red light or flashing light at that intersection. The signage is very confusing…especially for someone who is not familiar with that area. With that being said, this has been a very scary incident for everyone involved and I know that my son Layne and his friend Lane has learned some very valuable lessons

Like Carl posted, hundreds per day and thousands per year see and are able to stop at that stop sign.
This was a mistake, not an accident. Hopefully all learn from their mistakes.
