After working in child protection for twenty plus years I can guarantee that no one will ever totally eliminate child deaths. As long as there are young, inexperienced parents and impatient caregivers of any sort...there is no way to totally eliminate the tragedy of child deaths. You may be able to reduce the risk and can improve on that issue, but to say there is a commission to totally eliminate child death is lacking effective thinking. If the commission believes that calling itself a committee to eliminate deaths so it's return is a reduction in child deaths, so be it. I believe it is naïve to think any one commission or law will totally eliminate the child deaths in any state. Also, to anyone who wants to work in this field, to accept a job in this field with the parameters that will be set up to eliminate child deaths will put you in a position of great stress and you are being set up for failure before you begin. I believe child deaths can be reduced, but it will take a lot more than a commission, however, that could be a good beginning. Teach teenagers while they are in school. Have obstetricians emphasize sleeping with the baby and other strategies (such as watching educational videos) for child safety every time the mother goes to prenatal care. Make affordable daycare available for young parents with infants up to five years old whether the parents are working or not. Sometimes a parent needs respite care and I found one of the big things were parents who needed to take some time off but felt guilty as if getting a break somehow made them a bad parent. There are so many things that can be done to reduce child deaths...but unfortunately, total elimination of child deaths will never happen.
