Everyone may not understand what an awesome performance Shrek was. I attended both performances, and I was blown away both nights by the absolute abundance of talent. This production was done by Mrs. Holk, Band Director and music teacher, and a collection of students throughout her classes all day long, working through and around limited practices, rain-school-canceled delays, sports' schedules and other extracurricular activities, student absences, daily district and state testing, etc. The performances were not flawless, but any imperfection only added to the quality of the performance. These students, 14-to-18-year-olds (Can you remember what you could/would do at this age?) were absolutely amazing. Hundreds of lines to memorize with appropriate and timely actions, students changing and performing many different characters and staying in character as needed, songs which showcased the exquisite talent of several students, lights and live music on cue, props hustled on and off stage, and so many other contributions to make it successful all would have been the ingredients for a successful Broadway Musical, but it was one, if not THE, most successful play since the school began. We at Northview realize the ability of Mrs. Holk to bring out the best in students who wish to excel. Even though they may not know what they are capable of achieving, she does. Several of these students already have Performing Arts scholarships to colleges and universities. That alone speaks volume for the program. The program is funded mostly by ticket sales to the various performances throughout the year. Parents, community members, students, graduates, Northview High Family, and all others, you are encouraged to support this program at each and every opportunity. On behalf of Northview, the hard work and dedication of the volunteers who assisted Mrs. Holk is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your investment in the citizens of tomorrow.
