thank you, robert s.
youve described my sentiments perfectly, as well...i want to share a post that my daughter made on FB yesterday.
"I am a Combat Veteran. By the Grace of God, I've been to Afghanistan and returned safely each time. Please do not thank me for my service today. It's not Veterans Day. Its Memorial Day; the one day that our country, as a whole, pays honor and respect to those who weren't as fortunate as I. It's the day that the parent of the fatherless and motherless children hug their kids to let them know that everything is going to be ok. It's the day that widows and widowers kiss dog tags and photographs. Arlington is walked upon by 65 year old Viet Nam veterans who share a beer with their team mate each year on this day. It's a day that bridges the generations under the umbrella of sacrifice. It's a day that I remember my friends, as the apache flies them home into a purple sky. I remember tear filled hands touching boots, rifles, dog tags and helmets for the last time. No matter the reason for war I know that I'm there for my brothers and sisters to my right and to my left; not for a political or a monetary agenda. As long as I am alive, I will NEVER be done paying my dues."

NorthEscambia, Thank You for the schedule of appropriate solemn events to Honor those who have Served and Sacrificed in the armed forces of this United States of America.

While everyone likes a cookout and gathering of family and friends as "the official kickoff to summer"; and the area receives a much needed financial boost of locals and visitors who buy picnic / camping goods and services; it is important to realize and understand the reason for this "Remembrance (Memorial) Day" observation and to thank those whose lives were given so that we can now enjoy our lives and freedoms as Americans.

Duty, Honor, Country....All Gave Some, Some Gave All....God Bless the USA
