At least Gov Scott is smart enough to realize that the state shouldn’t be on the hook for $500 billion in property exposure. Charlie Crist put the state of Florida on the path to bankruptcy by expanding Citizens and chasing large, financially strong national insurers out of the state. We are extremely lucky that we haven’t had a hurricane in 8 years.

c.w. – I have Citizens because no one else will insure a trailer. I live fifty miles from the coast, and no where near a flood zone. I pay MORE for my trailer insurance than I did for my house. (a house that was wrecked by Ivan, btw, and my insurance company smiled politely and walked away). Please know all the facts before you start slammjng people.

Wait, what? They have BILLIONS in reserve, we havent had a hurricane in ten years, and they STILL raised my rates? Not cool people, not cool.

Citizens never should have been started in the first place. People that choose to build on water front, beach front, where ever that subject to flooding should pay their way. I don’t OWE them anything but contempt.
