In some states, including Alabama, the tag is not embossed. When the paint burns away, there is no way to determine the tag number.

Tags and VIN plates are made from aluminum. They melt off the car in a fire. Police will have to get the hidden VIN stamped in the frame rails.

Prayers going out to the family.

This is why I don’t agree with license plates for cars to be flat. When they are raised letters if a crash causes a fire such as this accident then law enforcement can still read the tag.
