I don't think I've read where in the head he was hit and I don't remember the caliber of the weapon she was using. If it was a smaller caliber, the back shots could have had a limited affect in the short term for stopping him. We know that men are stronger and more dangerous. Your thinking is "old school". When a woman verses a man in self defence, her best opportunity to survive is getting him from behind or a good unexpected blow to the head. Wife abusers do not just get locked up for a little while and then freed as happy well adjusted citizens. No, that's when even worse abuse starts, because they think they have to teach her a lesson.
