We will all miss Mr. JB dearly. He was a wonderful person and loved the Lord with all his heart. He was a friend to all, devoted to his family and community. He helped me on several occasions when I was homeless in Oakgrove Park. He always had an emcouraging word. I am sorry that I did not get to see him once more before his passing, but I know he is now ready to see his beloved Gladys once again. I will always remember him raking those leaves at the church. I just hope that I can experience a little of the goodness he expressed to everyone he met! Will be missed immensely….

Oak Grove was fortunate to have had so many of the generation that has now passed on to look up to and to follow their example. To name a few, those of the Godwin families, the Walker families, Milstead families, Pugh families, Hall families, Rigby families, and Amos family. I am sure I have left some out, but please forgive me. They were loved by the generations under them.

J.B I will miss you and will always keep your memory in a special place. To the surviving family, you have my sympathy. I know losing someone so special is hard to deal with.

If you look up the definition of a true “Christian”, you would not only see the smiling face of J. B. Walker, but you would also see Gladys Walker. The
dedication to Christ was first and foremost in their lives and in their marriage and family. It is because of their dedication that they became the wonderful
people they were. They are together again and I somehow think they have a place at the table with Jesus himself. They both left footprints on the hearts of those they helped and touched.

What a humbly kind man , with a good Christian character ! He lived his faith, and gave everyone who knew him reason to believe in the goodness of humanity. What an example to leave his sweet familiy and all who knew him !

“A good man is hard to find,” but it was easy to see that J.B. Walker was a good man. I am proud to have known J.B. and Clarence. I immediately had a special affection for J.B. because my own father up in north Alabama was named J.B. Walker. Often asked whether I was part of the Oak Grove Walkers, I had to say “no, but I wish I was, because they seem to be a pillar-of-the-community family.”

He is fondly remembered by all for his kindness and hard work. He set the example that a job well done is it’s own reward for the several generations that were lucky enough to know him. Even in admonishments he was kindly. I remember getting into a bit of trouble as a child when I played with some piglets that were too cute to resist. I had no idea that the big old sow could move so fast! I was lucky that day but he reminded me with laughter that I was lucky to get out of that pig pen with just dirty clothes! 96 years of a life well lived and well loved.

My family’s sympathies go to Sam, Vivian, Scott and Brandon. What an honor to have know Mr. J.B.. He could outwork anyone half his age and always had a smile and a kind word. He was one of the good folks our community has been fortunate to have. 96 years young.
