So they're going to widen a portion of Scenic Highway that stretches the length of an overpass? How will the relieve congestion? So we still get to follow the snowbird out on a leisurely drive at 8am who doesn't know how to maintain speed on the hills and all scramble to pass him when the road widens for half a mile? Sounds like a great plan. Or are they just widening it to make longer turn lanes? Doesn't seem like it will solve much to me. Synchronize the lights at both exits to really relieve congestion.
Seems to me Olive Road or the I-10 on-ramp at Hwy 29 South would be a better place to spend the money.

Richard you are trying to apply common sense to government projects. It don't work. I would like to know who the engineer who thought putting a southbound US 29 ramp with a suggested 25 mph speed into the inside lane of I10 with a speed limit of 55 mph was. Every time that ramp gets damp there is a crash.

Widening lanes only releases latent demand(I-10 is always to busy,,,until now) and encourages future use.
University of California at Berkeley's 17 year study covering found that, for every 10 percent increase in roadway capacity, traffic increased 9 percent within four years' time.

50 Mill could be spent very effectively if we didn't grasp for drooping grapes so often.

That's a pretty busy stretch of road. Four lanes will help. I also agree with you, Richard - Olive road through the Ferry Pass area is terrible! Four lanes would help, but I don't know where they'd put them. When they widened the road a few years back, they ate up the front yards of the properties along the road at that time. Where would the new lanes go?
