If you really want to see how the teachers are truly rated, please call the school and ask the administration to show you the pre-VAM teacher ratings. The Value Added Model (VAM) is NOT a true measurement of the teacher's abilities. It is a ridiculous formula that takes a lot of non-classroom related factors into account and makes a prediction of what they teacher should be accomplishing instead of what has been accomplished.

Teachers can only do as well as the students, and parents, do. After all, as the old saying goes, "You can bring a horse to water, but you can make it drink." Teachers can do what they need to do, but if the students, and parents, are not willing to do their part in learning, the process will eventually fail.

Who is really to blame?

Here's what will NOT be mentioned in the media or explained by the Appeals court because neither group has any idea what our job entails... 50% of our evaluation is based on our performance and 50% of our evaluation is based on the fcat results at our school. For easy math, let's say I am the very best teacher in the county at the very lowest performing school, the population that needs us the most. My evaluation would be somewhere around the middle. So let me clarify, I'm not concerned with anyone seeing my evaluation, I'm concerned with the public being mislead or misinformed regarding my evaluation.

Pardon me for not reading the whole article...Teachers’ results under a Florida Department of Education formula meant to measure student learning must be released to the public, the 1st District Court of Appeal ruled Tuesday....is all I needed to see.

I believe as a parent of a student we DESERVE to see what the teachers are capable of. If they are NOT performing to their degrees they should be replaced, period. My child's education is put into the hands of teachers that state they are qualified, but are they really? Something I am for 110%. I've always done my own investigation on the staff and teachers my son comes into contact with and will continue to do so.
