Bought some rabbit ears, hooked it up to my dish dvr got chnl 5 hd,plus 20 more i didnt know about. Use channel 5 for SEC football only. Now if i could get rid of gary danielson and verne life would be good.

David P…Really…Dish dropped Speed or did Fox decide that FS1 would replace the Speed Channel….pretty sure the latter is true, so no matter what cable/dish provider you go to Speed will not be there….and when you do change provider, who will you blame when they have to negotiate with WKRG/Media General to broadcast on what will be charged to broadcast a FREE channel?

IMHO, blaming the provider in this is wrong….

WKRG/Media General is a FREE over the air local TV station, they make money by selling local and network advertising…hmmm. Fewer and fewer people use an antena for programming…cable/dish providers are the norm and provide local channels with more service options…DVR, Dual tuners, HD…etc… The fact that providers are paying these companies to broadcast FREE TV should be gravy and appreciated by these TV companies…Greed…WKRG, who is going to want to by advertising spots on your channel if nobody is watching??? You’re not a cable network, stop acting like one…

This just sounds like a stand-off between Dish and WKRG which will most likely be resolved, but not before both parties lose revenue and viewers..

If Dish hasn’t started broadcasting 5 by the time I get home from offshore I’ll be cutting their service…Bad enough Speed was cut now 1 of the only channels I care about….It will be over the air and internet streamed to my TV for me…..

Those channels are still free, no one took anything away. If everyone refused to pay for tv the threat will go away against free television.

You do not need a converter if your tv has a built-in digital tuner, which most of the newer models do.

It’s all about money.
Feds took away the free over-the-air communications we citizens had for so many years so they could sell those channels to cell phone companies and other private communications concerns.
That pushed us to having to go with a cable or dish company to get our t.v. news, weather and “entertainment” (?) programs.
No problem, it was only public access and the govt knows what is best for us.
You can still get the t.v. stations on an antenna but need to purchase a converter.
Not sure Dish is a hero in this offer, just saving face compared to how they would have looked if they refused service in an emergency situation.
Of course there are other channels than 5.
