Everybody should have some extra sandbags in their hurricane kit. They are good for a lot of things, including, holding down tarps on the roof (better than nails,) when the neighbor's trees intrude on the old familial abode.

>>>does anyone know if any sandbags are being offered in the atmore area?

No. Atmore is expected to receive only an inch or two or rain at most now that the storm has weakened and become disorganized.

Since it appears that Jim Cantore will have little else to do this weekend (thankfully), we should organize a "Hemingway" style lookalike contest out at Pegleg Pete's. Everyone who thinks they look like Cantore could come to compete, and Cantore could be the judge. It would be fun and all the women could get their pictures made with him (ladies, you know you want to...)

Weather man, I bought tickets for Bayfest and it is still a go. No rushing for refunds here. Had a great time last night and looking forward to the very same today.

Yes, @ Wharf Rat, like you, I have a couple books on standby if the power goes out. One way or the other, I will NOT be bored! :-)

@JeanD, please don't take my comments as saying we don't have to be prepared. I always have my hurricane kit at the ready, but outside of putting away objects that might get blown away, I'm not boarding up my house for a tropical storm.

I just pray those that live in low lying areas do not get flooded out!

JeanD:

The technology has advanced significantly since1995. Yes, that's eighteen years ago. With that said, the forecast models are still wrong most of the time. Anytime I seea forecast 4 days out and look at where the models have it making landfall, I know for sure that is where it will NOT make landfall.

Remember 4 Oct 1995? We all went to bed on the 3rd thinking Opal was far off shore and no big threat to us. When we all woke up the morning of 4 October she was sitting right off shore and turned out to be a strong hurricane that did a lot of damage to the area. Be prepared is all i'm saying.

Hey Mark,

I'm with you, and if the power goes out, there is always a good book waiting to be read.

Now if my neighbor's trees will not fall on my house, I can make it a pleasant weekend.
