Speeding through a school zone...be it 1 or 20...you should get ticketed! And I agree with MB about the Tate area, especially Tate School Road. They did not have a school zone there until a few years ago, when working with Larry Newsome got one installed...BUT...It has NEVER been enforced. Don't understand why the Tate Resource Officer can not enforce the zone...but that don't happen either. It is like a drag race...daily! Children should NEVER have to cross the road. Tax money is wasted on so much crap. Why not spend it on making the bus process safer as a whole. I will not speed up until I pass the "End Zone" sign. However, a few years ago I had noticed the lights were not working for two days when they should have been so I stopped at the school and told the office people who said they would fix it. I don't have kids in that school, but I stopped anyway for the children. We should all put the childrern ahead of our schedule. They are the most precious resource. Over that ya have a mandatory face to face with your local court house! Hummm, my grand babies getting on & off the bus w/out that 6' fence, traffic going crazy on hwy 97, & the fine for failing to stop for a school bus loading or unloading our children, the hurried speeders only get a $271 fine!!! Is this speed zone more important $$$ than the safety of our children exposed getting on & off the buses?? I don't get it!! Time we start asking questions to our elected officials! Total cost with the ticket, court fees and everything else came to $1,200.. plus one weekend picking up trash on the side of the road. I hate to say it from the perspective of the wallet but these penalties are worth it to save lives. I just think they need to make the fine for not stopping for a school bus that is loading and unloading students much higher than $271.00. That seems much worse to me than going 10 miles over the speed limit. Let's all watch out for our kids and grandkids as they go off to school. They are irreplaceable and depend on us to protect them. Bump them up to $1000 minimum at 1 mph over. Does not bother me a bit because I won't be breaking the speed limit. As the saying goes...."Speed cost money". In better equipment AND speeding fines.
