The BOCC might of ran the jail before and some folks assume it"ll be ok and better.Wrong on both counts. The DOJ defined certain changes to be mademthis wil be on the "maybe we can do it this way "list by BOCC. Unfortunately the cost on non complience is a very daily expense cost up to 25K daily. Yes some of you have done the math BOCC said 2.6 billion to make chages and repairs well get ready to watch BOCC ask for yep. MORE MONEY between the purchase of the licenses the re outfitting of every officer in mail jaik ab CBD and staffing not to mention the re marking of all jail vehicles, add HR personell, IA,training dept by whom? Well their 2.6 mil will turn out to be about 4.6 and possibly more. Stand by for heavy rolls and high seas.

@ clueless> I am in the corrections field. What do you mean volunteer my time? how much clearer can I get that I currently work in this field. I do the work everyday and do it for self satisfaction that we are providing a service to the community. a service that by the way, a weak minded person could not handle. I worked for the state dept. of corrections for 12 years before I came to the road prison. I love my line of work, and also glad I can feed my family. I don't need a Bentley to travel in this town. Its not all about the money. My 1997 Nissan p/u works just fine. except for a few rattles. but always cranks and gets me where I need to go. You live within your means when your doing a job you love.

Whovever runs teh jail shoudl eb smart enough to take note that county jails fall under state guidelines and in the case of an accredited agency, which the ECSO is, the standards are "Florida Model Jail" standards which the ECSO Corrections has routinely met. There may be some staffing issues but as a whole the agency meets the guidleiens set by the state in every way.

If I were the person in charge at the jail I would tell the DOJ to tee it up and file their lawsuit. Hopefully, a decent judge would look at the facts and that the agency meets or exceeds state guidelines and then would dismiss the case. The DOJ report refers to federal guidelines for housing and so forth of inmates. County jails as noted prior are subject to state guidleines, not necessarily federal ones.

The BOCC ran the jail in the past. All they will do is hire a superintendent to run the jail and the BOCC will handle any disputes in regards to management policies. No big deal.

Puddin, if they took that stuff away, it would be against their rights.I feel like this has gotten away from the subject. I agree with taking that stuff away but the truth is that even though they are public officials and are trying to make a difference, they still need money to survive. If not then to good for all, you can volunteer your time and work for free as a reserve deputy. Those guys and gals need to feed their family! Oh and I think Walmart could use a person like you since money is not an issue with you.

Ok, thats fine. If they can do a better job then let them do it. First, lets take the hot pots away from the inmates to make it safer for the S. O.'s. Then how about taking away the razors? Crayons only for writing so they cant stab anyone. Etc. In other words, lets make it safer for the workers, then we can make it safer for the prisoners.

I do not see the transition being ugly at all. the jail has some very competent leaders that will continue to do their jobs, if they so choose. Like all places of employment, there is probably some bad apples that need to removed from the orchard. As im sure you are aware, we don't get into this line of work for the $. This line of work is for those that need to feel like they are making a difference in their communities and making our kids safer. Sure we deal with some knuckle heads along the way, but that's part of the job. Some can be reached out to and some can't. I would like to say that I love my Job and the Moral is not down at the road prison and were are under the BCC. Sure everyone thinks they deserve an across the board raise to cope with the rising cost of everything, but as public servants, we have to deal with available funds and county funding issues. no one liked the ECAT gas tax, including me, every citizen had to pay for the transportation of only a few. but we elected these guys and girls to represent us and do what is best for the whole of the county.

Proud of you good for all. I aplaude you for what you do but as the name suggest, some are clueless. The greener the grass the more messy the cow patties! It will be an ugly transition I'm afraid. When it is all said and done, I hope each and every officer gets a fair shake in this deal. I guess that we will see. Just hope those cow patties have dried or a lot of shoes will have a lot of you-know-what on them! I didn't write my comments to attack officers or their services. I am proud of each of you! Guess its not so for some others on this post.
