I'm so happy to hear about these changes. Children shouldn't be restricted from normal activities while in foster care. They already feel like outcasts and being as normal as possible is very important. Aging out at 18 is too young, also. I think we'd have more foster families if more focus was put on it and awareness given more to the need for foster care. We also need the state to allow more infant foster families and more families eligible to foster teenage mothers AND their babies.

This is a MUCH needed change for these children and the foster parents. For those who have never been around the system or the structure of the system you have no idea how frustrating it is to call, ask for permission to allow the children to go and do something and wait.....
These children are constantly being traumatized for things beyond their control. I just hope that this will give them opportunities that are well deserved. I also hope that it will allow the foster parents some more much needed resources so that they can "reach out" and stop treating these children differently and labeling them like everyone else.
My question is; Where are the extra beds and foster homes going to come from? Our state already has such a shortage and now with the passing of this, which will allow for the kids from 18-21 to re-enter the system, I would say we are looking at needing additional beds and homes.....has anyone addressed this? I hope so, because we need it addressed and quickly!!!
