As a parent of two at Bratt Elem. I don’t believe what David Huie Green says, I think he just likes to preach and preach, as he did to all of us who had him when we were in school. Yes teachers teach alot around this test, as they teach alot of other things that these wonderful bright students need to learn to get by in the big world.. ALSO I AM PROUD OF MY CHILDREN’S SCORES..As I am sure alot of parents at Bratt are proud of where there child or children scored on this test.. I also think the extra help with the afternoon studying for the FCAT went well, just hope they do that next year.. To prepare my children for the FCAT again… Congrats Bratt Elementary…

REGARDING:

Usually, the school is not downgraded based on ESE students’ results. (although some of Patsy’s students did beat some of the non ESE students on some subjects)

I guess I see this from a different side I have a ese child who takes FCAT and I know he is going to score 1 or 2 along with other mainstreamed ese children because they can not do their class work so really it’s nothing new. And yes my child does try very hard and when people just act as if he is a burden I just smile cause one day maybe when they are old they will know how awful it is not to think the same and be a little slower. On the other side I have a child that has always been an A student. This test is not fair teachers have so much to deal with and these schools are judged on low scores because of children who can not score high enough.

It’s not so bad for the ones who did not make a good proficiency rating. It is obvious from reading much of what is written here that people don’t need to be able to read, write and work math correctly to make a living.

They won’t have as much as those who work and try to better themselves, but they will get by and can always decide to get on the ball and better themselves if they choose. Most likely they will blame their teachers, parents, government, community, city, parole officers for their failings, but the truth is most of us can decide much of what our future will be like. Many just decide for a dim and limited future.

Scores in the 40’s and 50’s at many of the schools. Is it any wonder that we are falling behind other countries. The governor want to drop back on math and other classes that will be needed in the job market for years to come. Be ready to welcome your kids back home when they graduate and can not find a job.
