Mick – All inmates in the Florida State Prison System serve 85% of their sentence regardless of minimum mandatory sentences. Parole was abolished in Florida in 1983, and the 85% minimum became law in 1995. If Phil was sentenced to 30 years, that’s 36 months. 85% of that is 30.6 months. So our friend will be locked up for about 25 1/2 years. You’re right about burden on society in or out. At least the cabbies are safe from him for a long time. Mandatory 10 years is not enough, he should have to serve it all..hes a burden on society whether he’s in a cage or not…but his actions warrant the cage…good riddance..
