This is happening in Hazlehurst, GA as well. I have researched all over the internet. Just type in Biomass for Waycross, Soperton, Camilla, Telfair, Appling. Plants are jumping up all over through these Industrial Revenue Bonds. Google John Colquit, Savannah, GA & Harold Arnold, Richmond Hill, GA. They have multiple LLC companies. All finished products are going to Europe. They are promising so many jobs for so much land and money. The plant in Soperton, GA Truetlen County was sold on the door steps of the courthouse and one of the main investors, VInod Khosla, who is a billionaire bought the company at auction pennies on the dollar. I have a facebook page that some of these articles are share on, Jeff Davis Concerned Taxpayers.

I can't seem to find any information on this company called "North Florida Biomass" yet the County is floating a $53M bond to fund the construction of a plant! They claim to create 24 jobs once the plant it operational.

Ummm, does this math make sense to anyone out there?!

Be careful what you wish for as plants like these with unfair government subsidies can run other wood using industry elsewhere. Imagine losing a papermill in Brewton or Pensacola to a lower value pellet plant. Imagine lower prices for wood to landowners with reduced competition. There is not enough wood around for many more plants in this area.

Mayor McCall don't let the downtown boys and girls, beat Century out of the lions share of the revenues

I remember when Benz built their plant in Tuscaloosa years ago, about 18 miles outside the town limits. Tuscaloosa annexed the acerage all the way out to the plant.
I guess it is now second only to Los Angles in size..

Good luck to all job applicants. I wonder if youi can burn bio mass in a chimenea and how much it cost a pound, what it smells like as it burns?

I was under the impression that pellets should be made from "hardwood" to prevent the buildup of creosote and tar that pine products are famous for because of the sap. Since pine is the most prevalent tree industry locally, the pellets are probably made from pine products and if so is there a process to remove the harmful sap?

There is a plant like this operating in Cottonwood FL. I know it ships pellets to Northern Europe where power companies use them to meet their stricter environmental quotas. You might, check out Green Circle which is the Swedish company that owns this plant.

All in favor of new jobs. Just hope it doesn't suffer the same fate as the helicopter plant, alleged catfish plant, alleged wood tie plant and so on.

I hate to be pessimistic but I've read this book before, ironically it revolved around selling wood products as well. I hope the due diligence and oversight is better on this "plan" for an industrial revival for Century than the schemes of the past.

I hope I'm wrong but it's just got that smell to it.
