Gas was $ 1.87 when Bush left office alright, But that's because it was $ 4.05 and the economy crashed and the price of gas plummeted to well below $ 2.00.!!! People around here of short memories....Gas prices are being manipulated by oil companies and stock investors to make huge profits off the backs of working people who have no choice, except to pay what ever the price is !! Gas jumps $.15 cents overnight and people whine about .04 cents for public transportation ?

No matter who's to blame, we're the ones that are screwed. Just have to try and use a little gasoline as possible. I know I'm dating myself, but man, I miss the days where going into a gas station and pumping $3 to $5 of gas was common!

REGARDING:
"If they aren’t a monopoly then how can prices go up when we have an overabundance of gas and are having to sell it to foreign countries."

More than one person can -- by definition -- NOT be a monopoly. Tens of thousands of people are also NOT a monopoly and the oil industry is owned by tens of thousands. For example, all the various national petroleum monopolies of OPEC put together provide around 40-44% of world production and dropping (and they cheat each other on production limits). Actually, it's probably owned by millions since most retirement funds include stock in energy companies. You probably own part of several oil companies. (I know Florida owns a large amount of stock in BP for example.)

As to why anyone ever sells anything, they do it because the one paying is willing to pay and the one selling desires the money they are willing to pay.

As to selling to other nations, we import petroleum, refine it and our domestic production into its components and sell those components. It is a shame that lots of people are moving out of dirt floored shacks around the world and are willing to pay for things we want to keep for ourselves like running water, electricity, mechanical transportation (versus foot transportation) but that’s life.

We DO have an abundance of natural gas and it IS cheaper than gasoline or diesel so those who wish are free to convert.

Bill just who are these billionaires and speculators you speak of? It is just your
paranoid speculation that there is this vast cabal of international financiers who
reap the profits of this world at the expense of its populace. I would not be surprised one bit if you believe the Kennedy assassination was a conspiracy.

Gas might have been $1.87 when Bush, Jr. came into office but after he invaded Iraq the price doubled and it never came back down to that price again. Now they just put out a rumor that we might bomb Iran and the speculators drive the price of oil back up and reap billions in unjustified profits.

When Teddy Roosevelt broke up Standard Oil, Rockefeller became richer because he owned parts of all of the new oil companies. Our glorius leaders have allowed the big three oil companies to buy up all the independents, so that now they have a virtual monopoly and can control price increases by shutting down a plant or changing from winter to summer blends, etc. or any other excuse they can come up with. If they aren't a monopoly then how can prices go up when we have an overabundance of gas and are having to sell it to foreign countries. It's obvious that there is a market manipulation going on by the billionaires who are in control.
