@Patriot ~ If a person feels threatened/is bitten by a stray dog in their yard (this wasn’t the case), you can call ECSO on the weekend/after hours when AC is closed. ECSO will then contact the ACO on call. As far as I know, that’s the only way to contact AC after hours for an emergency….via ECSO. I never said call ECSO for animals wandering around.

Patriot…. You are wrong. The town of Century does not have a leash law. The leash law in effect for Escambia county stops at the nine mile rd area… This is a fact.. call anyone you wish. Per the 10-12 you quoted..

“Direct control shall apply only to the areas of the county which are designated by resolution of the board of county commissioners.”

Century does not fall into this their direct control. I called animal control to verify, but seeing how I lived in Century for 30 years… I know. My mother was also a council member. I know there is NO leash law!!!! You need to get your facts straight before you argue a point you know nothing about! The number to animal control number is 595-0097….. People have to educate themselves.. (rolling eyes sarcastically) You should never put out false information to try to arm the public.

For any unfamiliar with the general area, it is in the Mayfair subdivision, bounded by Massachusetts Ave to the north, Fairfield to the south, Mobile HWY to the west, Hollywood to the east.

There is a “leash law” in Escambia County (including the city of Century). Read the county ordinances, section 10-12.

Do NOT call ECSO for animals wandering around, it’s not their job to handle animals, track down owners, etc. and there are almost ALWAYS higher priority calls holding.

Let me climb on my soapbox for a moment…before you call 911 for ANYTHING, consider whether it is actually an EMERGENCY. If it isn’t……don’t. Pretty simple. ECSO handles literally hundreds of 911 calls a day, the vast majority are NOT emergency. It’s a huge waste of resources.

This is FELONY animal cruelty and can get you up to 5 years prison time in FL.
This was a cruel, malicious act perpetrated by someone who will more than likely go on to harm vulnerable citizens. There is an abundance of research that links animal cruelty to violence against humans so it would be wise to give these cases the scrutiny and respect they deserve. Even if the dog was on someone’s property, you do NOT go bow hunting. You call Animal Control or ECSO. More than likely, the dog was not trespassing and was snatched by the thug(s) who perpetrated this crime.

Thank you ECSO for taking this crime seriously and putting out a press release on it.

Its a shame that animals are being killed…. but were they on their owners property or being allowed to roam? I’m not advocating for killing every animal on the loose, but owners need to take some responsibility too. I wish the North end would implement a leash law. I know Century does not have one for sure! Although, when my father was almost attacked by a pack of dogs, animal control sprang into action. I was very pleased with how it was handled. I just wish more people were responsible owners.

A couple of years ago my cat almost died…he was shot with a target arrow out here in Molino. Then I found small black dog that was dead that had also been shot with an arrow. I don’t know who does these things but they need to be stopped and put in jail!
