I have lived in Molino since 1980. Consideration and Patience would go a long way at this intersection. It is busier now than it was back then, but the rules of the game are the same. STOP sign, does not mean “California Roll” and now there is a turn lane added. What a mess! You can not come off Hwy 29 into the Tom Thumb, because when you use your blinker, people off Hwy 97 pull out. It is one big hassle to turn onto Hwy 97 and then try to turn into the Tom Thumb because Crabtree Church Rd is blocked. I drive a dually truck and you can not just manuever them any and every where. My choice to drive it, Yes..but when does reasoning and logical thinking take affect?
Let’s be courtesy and polite of others and see how far that can take us. We all live in North Escambia for a reason – We are out of town. Keep asking for lights, Speed limit changes, etc and you might as well move south!

Prays to everyone involved. I was pulling into the Tom Thumb(ironic, lol) to get diesel not long after this happened – still had a hard time and a ECSO was right behind trying to turn on Crabtree as well…think anyone paid attention – Not Hardly!

there is only a flashing lite there and it is a wide intersection. it also is a turn to go to the elem. school so in a.m. a lot of buses trying to turn. should have a regular lite for 6 a.m. till 6 p.m. then can go to flashing. traffic flies thru there cause there are no lights for a long stretch of road

@umm–There is a flashing light at 29 & 97—not a traffic light to control traffic flow. The intersection was bad before, now it’s worse. How many years did it take DOT to become aware that at 29 and I-10 that the south bound exit needed what is there now. In the a/m traffic would back up on I-10 when a 18 wheeler tried the exit south on 29. The truck had a stop sign and there was no way they could get up to traffic flow speed. It is almost impossible to get the local DOT to help on any thing dealing with any thing. I called about another problem and was told I had to call the district office in Crestview or Tallahassee. I ask if they could call– I was told no. At least with the grocery store closing at 29 & Molino Rd, there have been less wrecks there. I guess it will take a major wreck with several people killed to get the corner total redone.

No Red light, a clover leaf with exit and on ramps would work much better. We need an overpass in Cantonment, so that rail operations at the mill will not continue to be hampered by high traffic flow, especially during rush hours.

If we are not careful, there will be nothing but redlights from I-65 to the bay. I do not want North Escambia to look like Ensley, a hodgepodge of businesses and residents, poor zoning and just a mess in general.

Moreover I am of the opinion that these industrial businesses should plant shrubbery and trees, to conceal the equipment and structures from the roadway and neighboring residences. Preserve the beauty of North Escambia.

Moving the entrance to Crabtree Church Road is mandatory before any other changes are made. Moving the road entrance and making the gas station accessible only from Crabtree Church Road would go a long way toward eliminating the accidents. As I’ve said before almost to the point of nausea, a red light will just move the accidents further up route 97 with all of the people trying to pass the individual at the front of the line who is doing 45.

I go from 29 to 97 several times a week and have never had a problem, the only sticky situation that i ever see is someone trying to make a left into Crabtree Church Road. The really scary part is the State putting a bicycle lane in the new traffic pattern on 97.

Contact DOT and get a petition going. I tried once before but there was not enough interest. It is one of the things the Mid County Neighborhood Watch is working on. We are trying to get more information regarding the number of accidents at this intersection, the petition is already to go out for signatures as soon as we do. Anyone who wants to help. please come to the next meeting in January….it is always the 4th Monday at 6:30pm at Aldersgate Church.

@wow. That was a well thought out statement and I have seen so many almost accidents there. And when school lets out it is a nightmare with all the busses trying to turn or cross there. Its a miracle that there hasnt been more accidents there. As you said, its important to be very careful and observent there.
