@Barbie, quit making assumptions. you do not know. from what she remembers, she was not speeding--she was looking for a road, which is an act that requires one to SLOW DOWN. and how about thanking the paramedics or firefighters who are the ones who ACTUALLY saved her? and whoever it was who called 911. i'm personally thankful to those people.

Well, I for one am waiting on a roll over right here in Century on Hecker Rd. and Mayo Street. The curve is banked wrong and I have seen many cars come around the small curve and be in the opposite lane when they get straight again. I have begged the deputy's to sit in a drive way and watch how fast the cars come and go through Hecker. BUT they are always over on Front Street sitting at the drive way for the old plant at the railroad. I guess it will take a "ROLL OVER" on Hecker for them to believe anyone who lives in the area. There are small children in the neighbourhood also. I just hope it doesn't come to a small child having to get hit by a car for them to do anything about it.

"It’s easier to roll vehicles like trucks and SUVs because they have high centers of gravity. (That’s why I was surprised when the Sheriff’s Department started buying them.)"

David,
The Tahoe's the Sheriff's department is purchasing is a modified version of what you're typical SUV driver owns. It has a special suspension package and a lower stance to accommodate for it's high center of gravity found in normal production models. Actually, it handles quite well.

Ford killed the Crown Vic program in 2010. so that limited the availability for a full frame, rear wheel drive replacement. The FHP has adopted the new Dodge Chargers, and the County has went with the Chevy Tahoe's because they are offered considerably cheaper than Chargers.
Escambia County decided to keep a full frame, rear wheel drive, V-8 powered platform.
The City of Pensacola, as well as Santa Rosa County has adopted the Chevy Impala, which is of uni-body construction, front wheel drive and V-6 powered for replacement of the beloved and common Crown Vic.

Yes, this is a bad situation. At this point she cannot even remember what happened. We do not have all of the facts. But let me assure you that my mother, a retired LCDR of the Navy, is not a "careless driver" (she's not a "careless" anything). Please try to refrain from lumping this accident in with all of the teenagers who've driven off the road recently because they're too selfish to put down their cellphones and act like responsible human beings.
And to those of you who expressed concern: Thank you, I believe she is going to be okay.

It's easier to roll vehicles like trucks and SUVs because they have high centers of gravity. (That's why I was surprised when the Sheriff's Department started buying them.) 2007 model Camrys are wide bodied sedans so it looks like they would be harder to roll -- harder but not impossible.

David hoping she's okay

sonors, what "you have come to believe" doesn't negate simple physics. A 3-4000 lb vehicle moving at even a moderate speed can roll over very easily, particularly when it hits a ditch followed by a railroad track. Quite literally, "go figure".
