I wasn't notified either and we've been drinking tap water all this weekend. If I get sick, who is at fault? With all the technology in the world, it is truly a shame that CHWW can't get a little bit to protect my family's safety.

Heck, they can't even get someone to ACTUALLY read the meter! Whomever is 'supposed' to be reading ours just estimates and only really reads it about once a quarter...I want that dudes job.

Boil water notice requirements as of state law 62-555.335 Fac.
Water systems in the state of fl. are required to report any equipment failures, main breaks,or break downs to the appropriate Department of environmental protection ,department of health, and issue a precautionary boil water notice to all customers effected by such occurrence as soon as possible and no later than noon the next day. A bacteriological survey must then be completed by an approved lab or approved county health dept. to insure the quality of drinking water before this notice can be rescinded. It takes a min. of 48hrs. in the lab for this survey to be completed.this survey cannot begin until the problem is corrected, the required number of samples are collected after flushing, and delivered to the lab. The labs are closed on the weekends so add those days if the collection of samples fall on saturday or sunday.
Boil water notices can be delivered by method of TV,Newspaper,Radio,Door hangers,Phone call or Local postings [grocery store, local post office etc.] The trouble with TV and some other methods is they are requested by your local water system to run these notices and they do not. There is no state law requiring them to run them so they may or may not run these type notices. Most Water systems try more than whats required of them to get everyone notified. They also strive to deliver a quality drinking water to our homes after all Drinking water is their product thats for sell. Consider this, there are miles of water mains, that deliver millions of gals. of water to our homes and supply our fire hydrants and irrigate our yards and gardens for less than 1/2 cent per gal. there are pumps that pump this same water and elevated storage tanks that store this water and the routine maintenance and repairs for all this plus trucks, tools, equipment, employees, thousands of dollars of samples to pull each year, building maintenance etc. and all for less than 1/2 cent per gal.
Sure beats running down to the creek to catch up a few of these gals. don't you think?

To Notice... I understand breaks are not scheduled events, but there are plenty of ways to notify residents of a problem that will result in their water being off ALL day.

How can you provide advance notice of the need to shut off water due to a main break?

Breaks are not normally scheduled events.

My husband came home from work Thursday evening to find our horses, cows, and dog with NO water! We have an automatic watering system for them and when the water is turned off without notice this is what happens. It would be greatly appreciated if cottage hill water would properly inform us when the water will be off, so we can make other plans for our animals!

As a precaution' if your water pressure drops below 20 psi for a 20 minute period, boil your water until you hear differently. If you don't hear a boil water warning, call the water works. 968-5485 and check on with them.

i too, am a little upset that there was no way that we were notified. an email, automated phone call, something, should have been done to let all CHWW consumers know about the boil notice. if it hadnt been for someone telling me on facebook that it was on here, i would still be in the dark about it. and further still, i wouldnt know if we were still under a boil notice until monday if amber above had not shared that information. i think a better system needs to be put in place to let us know what is going on when something like that happens.

....and just when was the "boil water notice" announced??

Just now, almost 8:30 pm, I get a phone call, not from CHWW, but from a relative, that we are under the boil water notification! All day long, and they couldn't alert the public to a potential contaminated water system???
good job, CHWW....
