It really bothers me that in this day and age, our local schools seem to want to skirt well-established laws where gender, race, and religion are concerned. I know it's our heritage, but you would think the schools would be at the forefront of compliance, not being dragged into it kicking and screaming.

At Northview the boys use their weight room all but one period. Makes it pretty hard to get in there. A lot of work was done to allow girls weight lifing in any capacity to happen during the day at Northview. As far as, Title IX goes it is not in place at a lot of schools in the weight rooms and with equipment. I am sure you will be hard pressed to find very many schools that offer weight lifing classes to girl athletes and yes the Districts and principals know that they are not satisflying Title IX. Girl sports in this area are not as a whole treated as a priority. There is a general lack of support for girls athletics and girl athletes. There are some parents that feel their sons sports are more important than their girls. Additional support and pressure put on those higher up will allow our girls the same opportunities that the boy athletes have.

My thoughts exactly!! When I went to Tate we all used the weight room. NO excuse to not use what they already have. That being said, I know the community will respond and make them a great weight room.
