DO NOT EVER OPEN A DOOR TO SOMEONE YOU DON’T KNOW! If they say it is the police ask them to go to your window and show you their badge. If you can’t see it, ask them to wait, call 911 and ask if they have an officer at your home. They will give you dispatch, who will tell you. Sometimes bad people get you to open the door this way. Please, even if the person says it is an emergency, call police. Do not open the door!

The ECSO suggests that you do not unlock or open the door to anyone that you have not invited unless you know they are trustworthy. That goes for any time of day or night. Tell them to leave your property and call the ECSO dispatcher at 436-9620 to report the suspicious person and have a deputy come check them out. You may wish to ask for no contact at your residence by the responding deputy. That will help to protect your anonymity. Often this type of perpetrator will be going door to door seeking a soft target. Home invasion or robberies at the front door are potentially lethal matters. Keep your door locked and call the Sheriff’s Office. The right response to these threats will make you the hero.

Same thing happened to my 80 yr old parents 2 weeks ago 1:30 am. Ringing the door bell like crazy. Most people would wake up disoriented think there was an emergency and open the door. Thank God they were afraid and called me. Turned the dogs out and called the police. Please warn the elderly this is happening over and over again.

I find it odd that a would be robber would knock on the front door…..

This article doesn’t say Mr. Lukers does not know who shot him nor does it give a number to call if any one has info about this crime. That makes me think they know who it was and are looking for him.

No country for old men, not slow and febble ones anyway. It is not the fault of our county LE, this is a national if not global problem, as economies falter and collaspe and more and more people become marginalized an X given number will resort to what ever crime they are innovative or stupid enough to attempt.

Prepare for the unexpected, look out for the weak in and outside of your circle.

Wasn’t long ago a man answered his door with a gun and it was the police at the wrong house. Well they shot him dead . Now a guy answers the door without a gun and is shot by a criminal. Does anybody have porch lights and windows? Geez, look out the window.
