@ Michael, Sir… Somehow, you believe that taking ineligible and dead people off the voter rolls in some way disenfranchises someone? You, apparently want people who are not legally registered voters to have a voice in a contest that does not legally concern them. Foxes and Racoons have no business tending the hen houses. When you take dead people and illegals off the voting rolls, how is that disenfranchising voters? It is only cleaning up the mess. Dead people and illegals are not legal voters. Get them off the lists. This is not like in 2000 when Al Gore tried to throw out military absentee ballots. Democrats are notorious for using the dead and illegals to stuff the ballot boxes. They cheat in this manner, while the Republicans try to cheat Ron Paul out of his delegates.
Tell the feds to butt out.

so if the Department of Homeland Security didn’t exist, the state would never know how to decide such things? sounds like the state is too dependent on the federal government for state functions.

In response to billw, it wasn’t only Dems purged, but the majority were. Studies were done and I’m not too sure that one or more lawsuits weren’t eventually filed. I do know that many claims were made, whether substantiated or not, that Bush would not have won the election if this and other irregularities hadn’t taken place. In the eyes of many, he “stole” that election. I agree about moving along, though. The simple fact is that no one who is not a legal voter should even be registered and no purging should be necessary…

I’ve said this before . . . . Republicans are always talking about “potential” voter fraud but you rarely ever hear anyone getting prosecuted for it whether there’s a Republican or Democrat attorney general in charge because the cases just don’t exist.

On the other hand, there were case afrer case of voter intimidation prosecuted and that’s the very reason all these laws and protections involving voting were put into place.

This is plain and simple a tactic to disenfranchise as many poor and minority voters close to an election as possible. In certain parts of the country and in voters of a certain age, birth certificates were NEVER given at birth so to demand one to exercise what is supposed to be a Constitutional Right is ridiculous!

Catching one illegal voter at the expense of disenfranchising hundreds is like locking up hundreds of innocent people trying to lock up one criminal . . . . we just don’t do that in America and we shouldn’t start now!

This really should be a no brainer for all citizens regardless of political affiliation. Who wants the weight of their vote changed by someone who has not met the qualification to vote?
Too many issues are taken as Republican or Democratic but this sure shouldn’t be one.

This smells slightly like the debacle during the 2000 election, in which many Democratic-voting names were purged from the rolls. I remember this well, because I was fresh out of the Army and my wife and I, although registered and with proper ID and voter registration in hand, were not allowed to vote against “W.”, because our names were not on a list. Sounds like the feds are trying to prevent this from happening again. I wasn’t allowed to vote in 1996 because I was in Bosnia and there was a massive screw-up with absentee ballots. Imagine that…
