You probably shouldn't speed in front of the christian school either...for any of you who even slow down enough to see the signs there.

REGARDING:
"What is so difficult about driving hwy 97? I drive 65mph every time I’m on that hwy"

Just so we're clear, you do know nowhere along that stretch is the speed limit higher than 55, don't you?

We were heading north on 97 a few days ago, as we approached the middle school, the school zone lights were flashing, so we slowed down to the required 25 mph. The car ahead of us proceeded on at at least 60 mph (the normal speed limit is 45). The car behind us was obviously annoyed and passed us just as we were approaching the LEO who was sitting there. I turned my head and looked directly at the officer and he just looked backed. Yesterday we were driving north again, driving 60 mph and we were passed on a hill with another car traveling towards us. That was a near collision. And people wonder "what's wrong with Hwy. 97?" My opinion, it's the DRIVERS not the road. These are just 2 of many, many similar incidents I have witnessed on Hwy. 97, people are ust too arrogant to think that the rules apply to them.

I always take hwy 99A to State Line Road or hwy 31, when traveling to and from
Atmore. I find the drivers less agressive, more laid back on this route.

For the drivers that want a 70mph limit on 97, you can't hold it on the road at 55.

I've traveled Hwy 97 for about, oh...30 yrs, and have never ever had an accident!! Amazing! And I do normally go 60 except through Walnut Hill and school zones. BUT, I am a cautious driver who never texts or talks on the phone while driving. I also have had young children in the vehicle with me all these years of driving that road. The problem is NOT the road...it is the drivers! I understand that accidents can happen to even the best or most cautious drivers, but mostly, driving safely and carefully will prevent accidents. People, leave earlier than you have to.. allow plenty of time to get to your destination. Don't pass when you cannot see more than 1/4 mile up the road ahead. Don't tailgate. Dont pick up that phone. Dont take your eyes off the road and surrounding areas, dont take your hands off the wheel. Dont take my life in your hands while you make foolish decisions to drive recklessly. There, I said it, but I sure don't expect it to change most of these crazy drivers.

i drive 97 twice a day almost 6 days a week. just this morning i was passed by two people, one behihd the other infront of molino park school. they used the
barred yellow striped lane. all people have to do is get up 15 minutes earlier and they wouldn't have to endanger anyone. by the way, an LEO of any kind is a rare
sight on this road.

Yes, it is speed I think. We have lived on the hill in Davisvilles way over 65 years and we've had people land in our front yard, into the carport and it is only by the grace of God that our children never got hit pulling in and out of driveway because of people speeding. I know something must be done about the deer because our son's vehicle was demolished almost in front of our house, a deer was killed and left in driveway but luckily no person was killed. There has to be something to cut down on the number of deer because I do know it is a problem on Hwy 97 because I traveled this road to work for 35 years and saw it first hand, even called and warned F&WL about deer stands along the highway with hunters manning guns; that did eventually get results. Speed, texting, talking on the phone is the largest and most dangerous things facing drivers on all highways now. People that work in Atmore see "near miss" running red lights, rear-ending automobiles all the time. Listen folks, let's cut down on driving and talking on phone, texting and speeding so we will all feel safe on the highway and streets again.

As long as people try to exceed the design specifications of the road, there will be accidents.

SURPRISE! SURPRISE! Another wreck on Hwy. 97. This is NOT the road, or the area. This is happening all along this road. At the risk of repeating others I say it is speed, not paying attention, etc.. People, please be watchful for the other person, as you never know when you will have a problem that you did not cause.
