The public is outraged initially and so happy when Panhandle Equine Rescue steps in to rescue horses. They may send in a one time donation, which is greatly appreciated. But PER takes responsibility for the horses for their lifetime. If they get adopted and the person comes to a point where they can no longer care for them, they come back to us. We currently have 19 horses in foster care; most of them have been adopted at one point and came back. We have horses that were rescued in 2006 in Escambia County that are still in our foster program. We also assisted in this Century rescue, as well as the donkey rescue currently on this site. If you would like to see PER continue to help horses and see that violators are prosecuted, please send in your tax deductible donation to PER, P.O. Box 777, Cantonment, FL. 32533. Look at all the cases in the news every day referencing animal cruelty. The public gets all fired up when the stories are released. Then, with a little time, all is forgotten & we move on with our little lives. Have all the locals forgotten the woman in Flomaton that intentionally shot the horse and burned her barn for insurance money? The same woman had fraudulently collected on an horse insurance policy before. What did she get? A "slap on the hand" is all, a little probation and she has animals again. Yep, just get a good old local attorney, let a little time go by (so the media dies down), and there you go......FREE AT LAST!!!!!! How soon WE forget, people.
